 Additional Rules

 1. Three forfeitures by any one team will result in disqualification from the league and league playoffs, thus meaning it is wise to notify us of any times you definitely cannot make before the season begins.  If unable to make a scheduled game time, a team may avoid adding a forfeit to their total by notifying the student intramural director at least five (5) hours before the game is scheduled to begin.  This will result in only a loss, rather than a forfeit.  Notification can be done on AIM @ BUIntramurals

2. Each individual player may only be on one team in each league.  Any player wishing to play for a second team must notify the opposing team of their desire to, for one game, play for a different team so that they have a complete team.  Only if that team approves may the player play for the second team.  If caught breaking this rule, player's team faces forfeiture of the game.

- Rules and Regulations -

1. A team consists of 6 players including the goalie. Roster size is limited to fifteen players.

2. Game consists of three 15 minute periods (running time), with 2 minutes between periods. Teams not signed in and ready to play within 10 minutes of scheduled game time will forfeit the game.  A 5 minute sudden death overtime period will be played, if necessary. If score is still tied, a "shoot out" will be used to determine the winner. One player at a time from each team starts from center and takes a penalty shot. The first team to score wins; however, the team shooting last has an opportunity to tie. No one may shoot twice until each team member has shot once. The same shooting order repeats the second time around.

3. The time will be running until the last (1) minute of the game when the clock will stop on whistles or time-outs.

4. Each team will be awarded 1 time-out and only in the event of a whistle or undisputed possession will time be stopped. (referee's discretion).

5. All apparatus and protrusions are in play unless blown dead by the referee. The Scorer's area and bench area are out of play.

6. Playing the ball with hands.

a. A player may stop an air borne ball with their hand if they drop it directly down. No player may bat an air borne ball with their stick.

b. No player may throw the ball. Goalies may roll the ball as long as it does not result in a goal.

c. Batting the ball with the hands or arms into the goal is illegal.

7. Face-offs will be held at one of 5 designated areas. No player will be allowed within a 10 foot radius of the 2 players taking the face-off .

8. Sticks may not be lifted above the knees at any time (i.e. parallel to floor). (High-sticking penalty)

9. Checking of any kind is prohibited. Players must play the ball with the stick. Any action in addition to, or other than that, constitutes a check.

a. A mild check (questionable incidental contact) will result in a 1 1/2 minute
"roughing" penalty. Team will play a person short.

b. Any type of intentional body contact will result in a major penalty and will be treated as such under Bryant Intramural rules.

10. Broken sticks must be dropped at the spot immediately. Any-one tossing or throwing a broken stick will be penalized based upon the severity of the action.

11. Protective padding may be worn only by the goaltenders - this is restricted to leg pads, chest protector, athletic support cups, lacrosse gloves and helmets (with cage) only!

12. Goalies must wear helmets (with cage).

13. Mouthpieces, athletic support cups, and protective eyewear is strongly
recommended for all players.

14. Six players maximum are allowed on the floor during play - substitutions are only allowed on whistles during stoppages of play.

15. Players may not throw their stick at anytime. Such action will result in a minor penalty and a 5 or 10 minute major with player disqualification (dependant on whether injury results due to such action).

16. Scoring a goal.

a. A goal is scored when the entire ball crosses the goal line.

b. The ball may be deflected off a defensive player or piece of equipment, but may not be kicked or batted in.

PENALTY ENFORCEMENT

Penalties shall be as follows:

A. Minor violations - loss of possession

B. Minor penalty - removed 1 1/2 minute

C. Major penalty - ejection with 5 or ten minute power play.

D. Penalty shot - awarded for the following

1. Player fouled from behind on a break away.

2. A violation or penalty which stops a sure goal.

3. Gross misconduct.

A. MINOR VIOLATIONS:

1. Throwing the ball.

2. Kicking the ball in the goal.

3. Handpass.

B. MINOR PENALTIES

Will result in 1 1/2 minute penalty with a maximum of three per game, the 4th minor. Will result in ejection and a nonreleaseable five minute shorthanded penalty for the offending team.

1. High sticking

2. Interference

3. Deliberate delay of game - not retrieving ball etc.

4. Too many players on the court.

5. Hooking with sticks.

6. A light check.

7. Repeated violations.

C. MAJOR PENALTIES

Any penalty in excess of a 1 1/2 minute minor (5 minute, 10 minute,

game misconduct, etc.) will be cause for automatic game ejection and

the team must play shorthanded for the length of the penalty.

(nonreleasable penalty)

1. Fighting.

2. Rough play.

3. Unsportsmanlike conduct.

4. Players leaving the beach or sideline

5. Repeated offenses.

Any player ejected from a game must leave the gym immediately. Any player ejected from a game will automatically be suspended. A second game ejection will result in suspension from play for the remainder of the season.

NOTE: Referees have been instructed to eject players who persist in rough and dangerous play. The player will not be able to play until s/he has met with the Coordinator for Intramural Sports and to process a decision on reinstatement. Disqualifications MAY carry into further Intramural Sports activities.
