BASKETBALL DIVISION B
RULE CHANGES
1. After half time, the team that gets the ball is
the team who currently has the possession arrow, not the team that
lost the tip.
2. Three forfeitures by any one team will
result in disqualification from the league and league playoffs,
thus meaning it is wise to notify us of any times you definitely
cannot make before the season begins. If unable to make a
scheduled game time, a team may avoid adding a forfeit to
their total by notifying the student intramural director at least
five (5) hours before the game is scheduled to begin.
This will result in only a loss, rather than a forfeit.
Notification can be done on AIM @ BUIntramurals
3. Each individual player may only be on one
team in each league. Any player wishing to play for a second
team must notify the opposing team of their desire to, for one
game, play for a different team so that they have a complete
team. Only if that team approves may the player play for the
second team. If caught breaking this rule, player's team
faces forfeiture of the game.
- Rules and Regulations -
NCAA Basketball rules with these Intramural
modifications.
1. The GAME will consist of two
20-minute halves, with up to 5 minutes rest between halves. The
10-minute forfeiture rule is in effect. Teams must arrive within 10
minutes of game time or the contest will be forfeited. Teams must
have at least four (4) players on the court to start and continue a
game. Roster size is limited to fifteen players.
2. The CLOCK will NOT be stopped for foul
shots, held-balls, out-of-bounds, etc. However, during the last 2
minutes of each half and of overtimes the timer will stop the watch
each time the ball is out-of-play. Throughout the game, teams
must line up promptly for foul shots. Officials will penalize teams
that attempt to consume time by using obvious stalling tactics in
these situations. The official may stop the clock and charge the
offending team with a technical foul for such tactics.
3. TIMEOUTS: Each team may call one
(1) timeout each half and in each overtime period. Additional
timeouts will not be granted (technical foul). Only players in the
game and on the team in possession of the ball may call timeouts,
not coaches or substitutes on the sidelines. During a dead-ball any
offensive or defensive player in the game may call a timeout.
4. TIE GAMES: An extra period of five
minutes will be played. If the score remains tied at the end of
this period, a second extra period will be started and so on until
there is a decisive winner. During the regular season,
double, triple, and all successive overtimes will be two minutes in
lenght, but in the playoffs they will remain at 5.
5.FOUL SHOTS: will be taken when the
foul is committed against a player in the act of shooting or on a
technical foul. For all other fouls, the ball will be taken
out-of-bounds and the player committing the foul will be charged
with a personal. After a team commits 7 team fouls (shooting &
non-shooting), the opposing team will begin shooting 1 and 1.
After a team commits 10 team fouls, the opposing team will get two
shots.
6. SUBSTITUTIONS: may be made anytime
the ball is out-of-play. Substitutes must wait for the official to
call them into the game with the two official system. Substitutes
must get an official's attention and wait for a dead ball to be
called in. A technical foul may be charged to the team for failure
to abide by this rule.
7. JUMP BALL: will be used to start
each game and overtime. In all held-ball situations teams will
alternate taking the ball out of bounds at the spot nearest to
where the situation occurs.
8. THREE POINT RULE: will be in effect
wherever and whenever possible. If through whatever circumstance,
games are played on courts without the 3-point arc, all shots are
worth 2 points (except free throws - 1 pt).
9. CLOSELY GUARDED: A five-second
count will be in effect when an offensive player is closely guarded
(defender(s) within 6 feet) in the front court whether he/she is
dribbling or holding the ball.
10. WOMEN'S GAME: will use the same
ten-second and five-second violations as the men's game.
11 DUNKING: Is permitted in intramural
basketball. However, participants are NOT permitted to dunk,
attempt to dunk, hang on the net, etc., BEFORE or AFTER intramural
contests. Violators will be assessed technical fouls.
12. HEADGEAR: is NOT permitted unless
for religious or medical reasons (with doctors note and staff
approval). Even so, it may not pose a hazard for opponents or
teammates. Elastic headbands are permitted. NO HATS, NO BANDANAS,
NO JEWELRY.
13. A PLAYER MAY COMPETE WITH TWO
TEAMS. A player may compete on one team in each
division. A player cannot play on two teams in the same division.
14. ELIGIBILITY: Varsity Basketball
players are ineligible for Intramural Basketball.
15. Eligible players may be added to team rosters anytime
PRIOR TO PLAYOFFS. No new players may be
added once playoffs begin. Only players who have played with a team
in at least one regular-season contest can compete in the playoffs.
16. Teams have 10 seconds to advance the ball into the
frontcourt upon inbounding it.
17. All other basic basketball rules apply, if there are
things you need clarification on, please feel free to ask before
your game.
